People who practice this technique are called reflexologists.

Reflexologists believe that applying pressure to these parts offers a range of health benefits.

There’s limited evidence that reflexology may help to:

Before your massage, the therapist uses a special heater to heat the stones up to around 45-50°C.

You don’t need to be worried that this is too hot, or could burn, as a professional therapist ensures the temperature is perfect and consistent.

There are various different hot stone massage techniques, and some will depend on the individual therapist. Generally though, the stones are placed on the body in specific spots, either guided anatomically or on energy points believed to help aid balance and flow.

Beyond leaving the stones in place, the therapist will also use the stones to perform Swedish massage techniques, such as kneading, long smooth strokes, and rolling.

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting hair-thin needles into specific acupuncture points. Practiced for over 2500 years in China, acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which views health as a constantly flow of energy.

Acupuncture helps to regulate imbalances in this natural flow of energy, which result in disease.

The acupuncture needles can unblock the obstruction at the dams, and re-establish the regular flow through the meridians.

Acupuncture treatment can therefore help the body’s internal organs to correct imbalances in digestion, absorption, energy production activities and the circulation of energy through the meridians.

To become a member of Acupuncture NZ, practitioners must either hold a Bachelor degree in Health Science (Acupuncture) or (TCM) from a recognised New Zealand teaching institution or have completed and passed an assessment of competence, safety and ethics.

Their course of study must have included a minimum of 500 hours of supervised clinical practice. Members of Acupuncture NZ have been accepted by ACC as Treatment Providers since 1990.

Professional Development

All members are bound by the Rules, Clinical Procedures and Safe Clinical Practice and Code of Professional Ethics of our organisation and are required to complete 20 hours continuing professional development (CPD) education each year. Members are required to hold a current first aid certificate in order to maintain their Annual Practising Certificate.
